Cultural programmes during festivals

The Gayatri temple has become a conflux of various cultural activities for the last six years .programmes in classical music and dance are being organized during Ugadi, Shivarathri, and Dasara under the co-sponsorship of Jhenkara a socio-cultural organization.

Many renowned artistes and musicians like R.Nagendra Rao, B.R.Pantulu, B.S.Ranga, M.A. Narasimhachar, Usha Datar, R.K.Srikantan, R.K.Suryanarayana, C.Krishnamurthy, Manju Barghavi and Bangalore K.Venkataram have been honoured by the Gayatri Seva Samithi.

This area is come to be known as Mahayaga Kshetra because three Mahayagas Koti Gayatri Mahayaga(with 380 ritviks from all over India)in 1987,Athirudra Mahayaga in 1991(with 180 ritviks),and Sahasra Chandi Mahayaga in1993 were performed .Only space was provided for constructing the temple by Dikshit Different committees comprising politicians ,businessmen, scientists and swamijis organized a function under the guidance of Chidambara Dikshit .The deity was sculpted by 90 year old Annamalai Achari from Tamil Nadu .Dikshit himself selected the black stone for sculpting the deity in 1962.

The object of performing yagas and Homas from time to time is to promote world peace and communal harmony, says Dikshit.

Pujas are conducted according to Shaivagama Sastra from 6a.m to 11.30a.m.and 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. every day and there will be special pujas on Tuesday, Friday and New Moon Day. Poor persons will be given accommodation for performing auspicious functions at a very moderate rate on contract basis.

N.T. Rama Rao, a veteran actor and a former chief minister of Andra Pradesh, has visited the Gayatri temple thrice. Union ministers Sitharam Kesri, Margaret Alva and Chandra Shekhara Murthy have also visited the temple .Veteran actor Late Dr. Rajkumar and his family have donated a silver crown and rendered financial help for constructing the Rajagopuram of the sanctum sanctorum. Renowned actresses like Jayanthi ,Geetha,B.V.Radha and Malashri have also offered prayers at the Gayatri temple .Most often, film producers have held muhurthams for their films here.
